I'm reading a saga about war, politics, religion, society, family relationships, miracles, deaths, killings, rape, incest, morality, goodness, money, greed, prophecy and royal families.  It's awesome!

EdnaFrau: Cat's Cradle is one of my faves, along with Vonnegut's Player Piano. Awesome work in procuring that book.

I just bought the first edition of Slapstick from '76 for 50 cents. Mint. hehe.

I think I should read some poli-sci after Grey Owl's conservation epic. Perhaps Bzrezinski's Grand Chessboard or Quigley's Tragedy and Hope. Maybe H.G. Wells' Outline of History from 1920.

OK, I'm totally being a dick. All of the above books I came by through sheer luck.

Vonnegut is the best. I just introduced my eleventh graders to him. They barely knew what to make of him. Cat's Cradle is probably his best work, with Slapstick coming in second.

One of the biggest compliments I've received on my writing is that it's a cross among Vonnegut, King, and Rice. That made me blush...and brag.

Hellllooooooooo!

I'm a newbie, and for my first post to this forum I feel that it's only appropriate that my first one would be about books.  I'm afraid my To Read list is a bit too long right now; I have four half read books stacked on my night stand right now (Jane Eyre--fifth reading--Darwin's Theory of Evolution, The Ice Storm, The Crossing), a book on Teddy Roosevelt fight for national parks, Love in the Time of Cholera (H1N1 inspired reading) and A Thousand Years of Solitude

I'm feeling so ADD with books right now but I really want to read them all so badly.  The only book I've been granting serious commitment to right now is The Street of a Thousand Blossoms.  I'm going to be leaving for my first trip to Japan soon so I was inspired by a friend to check it out.  So far it's a pretty cool book about learning the art of sumo wrestling.  Bad Assss!

/\ Welcome Exit57!
What a great choice of books. I read Love in the Time of Cholera and truly "enjoyed it".. .definitely better than the movie... LOL... Isn't it true of most books? With a few exceptions!

I hope you will have a great trip to Japan... which reminds me "Memoirs of a Geisha" truly a GEM.

Thanks again and welcome all READERS OF THE FOUND COLBERT NATION!!!
